EQUIT 3 TRIAL
The NZ Quit
Vaping Study
We’re inviting anyone aged 16 years and over who wants to quit vaping nicotine, to join our exciting new study.

If you meet our entry criteria, you’ll be randomly assigned (like the toss of a coin) into one of two groups. One group will receive nicotine replacement therapy (NRT) in the form of nicotine patches and nicotine mouth spray. The other group will receive a nicotine tapering plan. You can’t choose which group you go into. All products will be provided at no cost, and delivered to your home for free.

Before you join the study it’s very important you fully understand what the study involves, so please click on the button below to find out more.

What will I have to do in the study?
1
Eligibility and consent
You will need to complete our online sign-up process and then take the screening survey to see if you are eligible to join. If you are eligible for the study, and still interested, you will be asked for your consent again - this time to join the study. This step will take about 15 minutes.
2
A quick survey
You will then be asked a series of questions about your gender, ethnicity, height and weight, level of education, your vaping history, smoking history, motivation to quit and previous quit attempts, your use of alcohol, cannabis, and medicines, and your general health. This step will take about 10 minutes.

The computer will then randomly assign you (like the toss of a coin) to a group. You could be in the NRT group, or the nicotine tapering plan group. You can’t choose your group, and you can’t change your group. We will let you know what group you are in.
3
Quitting vaping
We will then courier your intervention to you for free. You will need to sign for the package at your preferred address and you may need to show your I.D. to the courier. You will also receive some written behavioural support designed to support you on your stop vaping journey.
You will start following/using your intervention the day after you receive it and keep following/using the intervention for 8 weeks.
4
Follow up
We will call you after 8 weeks (around your last day of following/using the intervention), then one, three, and six months later to see how you are going with your quit vaping journey. These calls will take about 5-15 minutes.
